Hobbies/Extracurricular Activities: Though she enjoys fencing and martial arts, she actually finds little satisfaction in it unless she’s teaching, especially if her student’s skill rivals her own. She likes to eat and enjoys doing research, a trait that stuck with her after years of police work. When she needs to clear her head, she usually goes out jogging, listening to quiet music on her iPod.

Brief History: Born to a wealthy couple in San Francisco, Yoruichi was something of the black sheep of the family. She insisted that the servants call her by her given name rather than “Miss Shihoin” (most just smiled and referred to her as “Miss Yoruichi” instead), and she was certainly perplexed by the fact that the servants didn’t eat at the same table as her and her parents. Her father, a retired lieutenant general of the Japan Air Self-Defense Force, often wondered if this had anything to do with how close Yoruichi was with the children at her public school. Her mother, an artist and author of several self-help books, wanted her daughter to experience the sort of hustle that she herself had when she attended public school in Los Angeles, but did see her husband’s point. They were a long way from Mrs. Shihoin’s difficult youth and didn’t want their only daughter to risk falling in with the wrong sorts of people. Halfway through second grade, Yoruichi was taken out of school, and her father diligently homeschooled her.

Shortly after her sixteenth birthday, her father was killed in an unfortunate hostage situation. Since she couldn’t protect her father on that fateful day, she vowed to do everything she could to protect everyone else who happens to cross her path. Thanks to the military training and discipline that her father managed to impart, she eventually became a member of the police force and quickly worked her way up the ranks.

Her intelligence, wit, and physical skill attracted the attention of politician Aizen Sosouke, who soon asked her to become his personal bodyguard. After the sensational and heart-wrenching death of the Uchiha family, Yoruichi found it difficult to continue her work on the force and was grateful for the chance to both get away from the tragedy and to protect someone as honorable as Aizen.

However, it didn’t take long to realize that there was more to this man than met the eye. She considered his position as City Councilman a threat to the future of the entire city, and made no effort to hide it. Aizen didn’t seem too worried about exposure; he somehow uncovered that Yoruichi had been financially assisting a rather well-known quasi-scientist conduct research that might lead to less-than-legal experiments regarding cloning human organs for transplant usage. Whether Aizen had actual proof of this—and whether it was something that could truly ruin the Shihoin family name—remains a mystery. Aizen also managed to discover a tangible romantic link between Yoruichi and this scientist which would also become a part of the scandal, which struck a chord with Yoruichi.

She left San Francisco for a time, hoping that Aizen would forget about her and allow for her personal life to remain personal. Distance proved to help her forget the truths she uncovered about her hometown and the people who run it, and she eventually began to convince herself that she was merely overreacting. Aizen wouldn’t be the first corrupt politician in existence, and he most certainly won’t be the last.

Nine years have passed since she stopped working for Aizen, and while living in Chicago and New York City did intrigue her, Yoruichi found herself longing for home. The years have changed her, and she doubted that she would be recognized as the professional police officer and bodyguard she once was, especially given her frequently-dyed hair (now purple) and rather sassy attitude. Still in top physical shape, she lobbied to start a fencing program at the Karakura Fitness Center where she used to exercise with her father, and is now heading back with the hopes of beginning a new life in a familiar setting.
